Despite a second round recovery Paul has missed the cut by a narrow one shot at the Nationwide Tour Players Cup in West Virginia. After an opening round of 75 Paul had a big task if he was the threaten the cutline which looked as if it would be around the 1 under mark as he headed out on day two.

Three birdies early in his round had him on track but a roller coaster ride through the turn cost him momentum and he would eventually finish with 69. The damage of round one was too great to repair.

The Nationwide Tour now has a week off before the Wayne Gretsky event in Thornbury in Canada.

Paul is in Bridgeport in West Virginia this week for the Nationwide Tour Players Cup, an event that was originally to carry a purse of US$ 1 million but a sponsor withdrawal has seen prizemoney reduced to US$600,000.

Paul feel his game is slowly coming around. "I wish someone had told me how long it would take to come out of a slump," he said jokingly referring to the amount of time he has spent struggling of late.

"I am really pleased with my driving and my putting has definitely made improvement. I have been working on a techhnique which allows me not to focus on the putter head going back and through which I had been doing and I have to say the putting has improved significantly."

Paul has played at this venue of on several occasions without much success but is looking forward to a continuation of the better form he has displayed of late.

Paul has a late tee time on day one where he will play in a group which includes fellow Australian Mark Hensby.
