After his very solid opening round of 69, Paul made a slow start today, in fact when he walked to the 13th tee at the Waialae Country Club he was at 4 over for the day and 3 over for the tournament and his chances appeared to be gone.
A birdie at the 13th left a slim chance and when he birdied the last, Paul still had an outside chance especially with the afternoon conditions not getting any easier. The numbers ahead of him crept lower by the hour and with an hour or so play left there was still a remote hope that the cut score might sneak out to 1 over. Alas it was not to be and Paul will now head back to Australia for a week before heading back to the USPGA Tour where his next start will likely be at the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines.
footnote - After intially planning on a visit back to Australia this week, Paul has now decided to play the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in California starting on Wednesday. Paul is currently first alternate for the event and so is therefore expected to gain a start.
