Out in the morning field on day two, the early conditions were a little breezy but by the time he had played a few holes the wind had dropped and conditions for the remainder of the round were near perfect. Paul's first birdie came at the par four 18th (his 9th of the day). He added another at the 1st and at that point was at 5 under and within three of the overnight lead of Kurt Barnes which was also shared by Gareth Paddison.
Paul was still 5 under when he reached the 7th tee but a pulled drive there led to a bogey and a missed short putt at his final hole of the day cost him another shot. His round of 72 has him at 3 under. He is safely around for the weekend but it was a frustrating way to finish.

Paul will make the cut at the New Zealand PGA Championship but two late bogies in round two were a disappointing way to finish what had been a good solid start to the tournament.
